I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday and enjoyed time with Family and Friends! Leading up to our break our class spent about a week and a half discussing what it meant to be Thankful, and all about the first Thanksgiving. Describing it as something that makes us happy and that we love that it is a part of our life, each student shared something or someone that they were thankful for. Later at centers they were able to draw a picture to illustrate and Mrs. Norris wrote what they had said. We also read "Pete the Cat and the First Thanksgiving" which helped us learn a little about the pilgrims and Native Americans coming together to share food near Plymouth Rock. Along with the 4 year old Preschool Class and our 4th grade buddies, we sat down in the lunch room and had our own Thanksgiving Feast filled with fruit, bagels, muffins, yogurt, and juice. The students also created their very own patterned feather hats that we wore while hunting down some turkeys last Monday. Coming off of break we were excited to begin learning about how animals prepare for the upcoming Winter season. We talked about how a lot of animals have spent the past couple of weeks eating a lot of food so they can build up fat that will keep them warm throughout the cold. They will also begin finding a nice warm place to fall asleep for the winter season, and we learned that this is called Hibernation. In art the students made sleeping bears, and also got to color a bear to add to our hibernating bear cave. In Math we practiced filling in missing numbers, and matched animals to the place where they would sleep for the Winter. We read several storied including, " Bear Snores On", "On the Night You Were Born", and " A Loud Winter's Nap". Everyone enjoyed beginning to sing Christmas songs in Music, and continued to learn how to play "What Time is it Mr. Fox?" in P.E.

Please remember, if you have not done so already, send your students' report card envelope back to school in their folder. Also remember to fill out the new hot lunch menu online for the month of December.
Have a good weekend!
